Four Lions (2010)
Four Lions is a small story set around a tiny group of British jihadists who dream of leaving an ever lasting mark on the western world. Directed by Christopher Morris best known for his work on The Day Today and Brasseye it’s a comic tour de force about a bunch of idiots trying to be exactly what they’re not.
This is a brilliant film with some really memorable characters played by some new faces who are sure to last a long time in the film or TV industry. Their charm and idiotic ways are immediately recognisable as the brain child of Morris and had sides splitting left right and centre in the cinema. I would love to explain some of the quotes and situations but I don’t want to spoil it.
The constant clash of ideologies within the film are hilarious and the one liners that can be taken from this are sure to make people laugh for years. It’s a laugh riot right from the get go, and is full of messages about the British culture and it’s reflection on extreme religions. Chris Morris has done it again and it is sure to make some people out there angry for all the wrong reasons. It’s a contemporary social commentary surrounded around the meaning of it all and the drive to succeed at a dream, even if it’s considered a horrible one.
It’s hard to not laugh at this given it’s plot, but it’s pure Morris and all there is to remember is it’s not a film about terrorism, it’s a film about idiots who believe they’re terrorists.
