ALL ABOUT FILM
Clash of the Titans (2010)
The remake of the 1980s classic, Clash of the Titans follows the story of Perseus as he journeys to stop the evil of the god Hades from spreading all over the world and the heavens themselves.
So okay it’s yet another remake to add to the pile, but don’t forget out from the world of the remakes can come timeless classics, The Fly and The Thing come to mind but also don’t dismiss the fact that some remakes can be just as good or as classic as the original (as Peter Jackson’s King Kong proved) and I was hoping to see this fit that into that category but alas it was not to be.
All right I admit it’s a fun movie with animated creatures left, right and centre as the trailer explained, but from those many wonderful images we saw you’d think a film of this scale would be at least 2 hours plus but sadly it wasn’t. At 1 hour 50 minutes the creators have crammed in as much action and mayhem as possible and it is hard to take in, it’s just another example of why films such as this should at least go into some depth before putting the characters at peril otherwise you find yourself not caring for them.
Now the action scenes looked downright terrible and it makes me absolutely furious when directors use the method of filming where every talking scene is a lovely locked down camera but as soon as the action kicks off the shot is zoomed in and shaking all over the place and the fact this movie was 3D made the whole gimmick of it being so pointless! Please keep the hand-held earthquake cam to a minimal and don’t shoot so close.
The C.G.I was pretty good and the dreaded Kraken looked fantastic (considering it was in the film for no more than five minutes) and really that is all what this film is, its balls to the wall action with giant monsters and beautiful woman everywhere you look. The acting is okay with no one standing out from the crowd and after all the build up and great looking trailers it has fallen into the same box as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, another average, entertaining but nothing special film.
Shame because this could have been another classic if only it had someone like Peter Jackson or Sam Raimi at the helm.
