ALL ABOUT FILM
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Tim Burton’s latest outing follows the now grown up Alice as she returns to wonderland only to find out she has to do battle with the red queen and her beloved pet the dreaded Jabberwocky.
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding this film ever since everyone got a first glimpse at Burton’s vision of wonderland in the trailers and I was one of them, but on viewing this film I was disappointed to find that the film never really was anything more than just…well good.
Mia Wasikowska who plays Alice did a good job and Depp was as cooky as ever, there are a few laughs and moments of Burton’s touch but nothing really stood out and made me say wow this film is great! The visuals are wonderful to look at and the music is classic Elfman but it feels like another Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I leave the cinema not really gaining anything and not really losing anything.
Alice in wonderland is entertaining but don’t go in thinking its the next Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice, a fun movie but leaves you far from awe struck. Burton should now go back to doing what he does best, Gothic horror.
