Country Strong (2011)
Gwyneth Paltrow plays a country music super star Kelly Canter who has a dramatic history ending up in rehab. Garrett Hedlund plays a rising star Beau who sparks with Kelly after she is released. Along with young musician Chiles Stanton, they tour across America together trying to overcome the past.
Country Strong is not what I was expecting. After seeing the trailer I thought I could predict what this film had to offer but I was surprised to find how deeply emotional the story was.
The cast are great with stand out performances from Paltrow and Hedlund who bring the world of country music to the screen with a new take on stardom. It’s not all glamor and happiness as we get a window into the darker side of fame.
The soundtrack is especially great. The songs that are performed by the cast are catchy and soulful. However it might be my weird love of country music that made my ears perk up.
Country Strong is a bumpy road and probably not a film for everyone but it’s an emotional ride that I would recommend seeing, especially for those who have a love for country music. Throughly impressed.
