ALL ABOUT FILM
Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
A platoon of marines fight against an alien invasion whilst looking for civilian survivors in the remains of Los Angeles.
Now this is how popcorn movies should be made. Battle: LA is something quite special. With a calm twenty minutes at the beginning the film quickly bursts into action and doesn’t give up, but that is its genius. Told completely from the point of view of a small platoon you’re taken through hell and back and you feel every shot and scare that is thrown at you.
The actors do an excellent job of portraying the military and all that entails. Aaron Eckhart plays his part to perfection and his character (taken with a pinch of salt) is very believable. The entire atmosphere of the film is entrancing, not since Transformers 2 have I seen so much action but it is done in a way that doesn’t become boring.
Yes there isn’t much of a solid story line, and my old foe the hand held camera work is all over the place but that is not the point of this film. It is a simple down to earth window into how the military would act to such an attack and that alone was more than interesting.
It doesn’t matter what the story is as long as it is told well: a saying I will always stand by. Battle: LA is an odd film but an interesting and surprisingly serious romp through the warzone streets of LA. Ooh-rah marines.
