True Grit (2011)
A young girl hires a bounty hunter to track down and bring to justice the man who murdered her father in cold blood.
Well what can I say but the Coen Brothers have pull out another great film from their magical hat. This time their focus is on a reboot of the 1969 western of the same title. For me No Country For Old Men is their best film and from what I had heard this was above that, with ten Oscar nominations and a string of other awards, however No Country For Old Men is still their best work in my opinion.
The cast were all phenomenal. Jeff “the dude” Bridges, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld stood out against the rest, bringing great chemistry the screen. Hailee Steinfeld especially deserved an Oscar for her first major role.
The cinematography and the music are two factors that really stood out from the rest of the film; it’s a feast for your eyes with beautiful shots of the old west and the livelihood of the cowboys who live there. The score is a profoundly beautiful one, giving a wonderful and boastful pace to early america.
The Coen Brothers have made another great film, and this fits into the box of remakes that are just as good if not better than the original. A worth while watch and pretty darn funny. A great start for my cinematic adventures throughout 2011.
