ALL ABOUT FILM
A Christmas Carol (2009)
A classic Dickens tale of self-redemption. Robert Zemeckis brings to life his vision of this tale using the very latest technology, making this pre-christmas season blockbuster one to catch.
Zemeckis has this habit of using motion capture to create fully CG films. The Polar Express and Beowulf were brilliant movies with amazing effects but before we’ve even hit December A christmas Carol roles up and it is no different. Its vivid look and great cast bring too life the classic tale but one thing should be mentioned, its scary as hell!
Its dark and creepy, the ghosts in the film are not child friendly. They’re moaning, chin rattling ghouls who even sent shivers down the spines of the adult members in the audience, but nonetheless its a family film. The children with laugh at Carrey’s Scrooge who’s incredible realistic face makes you laugh out loud. His miserable out look on christmas is brilliantly captured, this is the Scrooge we all imagined and I’m sure if Charles Dickens was alive he would agree.
Its a shame the film couldn’t have been released closer to christmas but because of its massive budget it needed to make it back. Jim Carrey really makes this film and it was refreshing to watch his take on the old character. A Christmas Carol is another CG Zemeckis hit which hopefully will still be running over the christmas period.
