Jennifer’s Body (2009)
A high school finds itself in turmoil as a demon possessed girl gets a lustful taste for the boys. Starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried its a black comedy tale about a dangerous friendship never seen before in a teen flick.
When the first trailer was released my anticipation for this film was somewhat banal. It didn’t strike me as something that would be anything above average, but to my surprise it was! Its story was somewhat simple, with very little to take in but it was the film’s characters who really brought it to life. Megan Fox really looked as if she was enjoying her role toying with the male characters before ripping their guts out and Seyfried made a surprisingly emotional role as the lead, trying to get to grips with her demonic best friend.
The odd camera angles really make this teen flick stand out in a crowd. The scene where we get our first glimpse at the possessed Jennifer (Fox) the atmosphere is tense and the camera stays locked down. Many modern films resort to hand-held, jerky camera movements during scary scenes but this film sticks to the old fashioned way and keeps the film clear of what I call “wobbly cam.”
A well filmed thrill ride, its tense and funny all at once, which seems to be doing well over here even critically, opposed to its domestic reception. Jennifer’s Body is a black comedy that rips the head of any conventional teen horror and spits down the neck hole. Catch it if you can.
