ALL ABOUT FILM
UP (2009)
Pixar’s latest outing sees Carl Fredrickson team up with a young scout called Russell as they set out on a wild adventure to South America’s Paradise Falls. This is film is an absolute triumph, it’s charming and mesmerising, a perfect family movie which will make you laugh and cry.
UP is a film that never meets in the middle, its the most adult Pixar film yet focusing on life’s funny ups and cruel downs but also its the most immature in the sense that it revels in its own silliness. The opening 15 minutes are the highlight of the film, they depict some harsh realities that life can offer, but Pixar pulls it off so well that it captures you from the outset.
It’s essentially an adventure film, an Indiana Jones of Pixar, and it’s hilarious! The talking dogs and Kevin bring the classic Pixar comedy that hasn’t been seen since Finding Nemo, where adult humour is merged with jokes that the young viewers can laugh at, making this film perfect for all.
The animation and look of the film is outstanding, it tops anything seen before by Pixar, bringing the classic mixture of cartoon and realism which is a trait seen in nearly every Pixar film.
UP deserves its place with the greats and over time it could push its way to being the best Pixar film ever made. Jokes are left right and centre but the serious messages are what makes this film so special. Catch this as soon as possible, UP is not only an animated classic it is quite possibly the best Pixar film to date.
