Piranha 3D (2010)

A tremor opens up an underwater lake, where prehistoric man eating piranha are released onto spring break. 

So okay I knew what I was getting myself into with this and from what I had heard this was a tongue in cheek, funny nod to the classic 70s monster movies that we all know and love. All I have to say is this. It’s not.  

What more can I say other than this film is really bad? I thought it might have some level of class to it, given it’s hype but no, it’s like I paid £8 to go and see a straight to DVD movie. I never got the sense I was watching a film that could have been made decades ago, and the 3D wasn’t even worth it.

Creature features can be done well, even if they’re meant to be comical, just look at Tremors, Snakes On A Plane or Lake Pacid, and it was a shame because Piranha could have been so much more. Yes it’s boobs and blood throughout but it’s really not worth the time. The only worth while scenes in the movie were the ones that had Richard Drefuss and Christopher Lloyd in them, and they’re not in it for much longer than 5 minutes!

Piranha is a mess and a dismal one at that. The only kick I got from it was the Tron Legacy trailer before it, and don’t even get me started on the appalling ending to this 3D nightmare.
