ALL ABOUT FILM
Scott Pilgrim vs The World (2010)
Michael Cera plays Scott Pilgrim, a young bass player who has to defeat seven deadly exes in order to win the girl of his dreams.
Well what an I say that hasn’t already been said? This film is fast, colourful, out there and defines the young web culture of today perfectly. It hit all the right notes with the audience I sat with, and was a refreshing blast of comedy and stylized action, it’s visually exciting and the fight sequences are so darn cool.
So okay, yes it was a lot of fun and rather funny but it’s pace was ruined by the amount of information crammed into it’s 112 minute run time. The way the characters are introduced is clever but not needed, at least in the comic you could take your time to read what was before you, but in the movie there’s to much to take in whilst trying to listen and watch what the characters are actually doing. But hey maybe I’m just getting old.
The cast are pretty awesome, (especially Kieran Culkin who was my personal favourite character) but Michael Cera sadly has fallen again into his type cast, he’s only known for being the awkward yet loveable young adult. I guess he fit the part well but again it might have well been Paulie Bleeker vs the World.
To sum up, I feel this film should fit in the same section as Speed Racer and Kick Ass, Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a film that keeps you on your toes, it’s loud bright and above all cool. Defiantly not one for the older generations but designed for kids born 1993 onwards.
